THE IMPORTANCE OF MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS IN THE LIFE OF A STUDENT

Distracted students may be present in training sessions or classrooms. They are thinking about various things, including their other classes, extracurricular activities, friendships, interests, physical distractions like hunger or fatigue, and much more. Students may put their current needs MASLOW’S HIERARCHY education and success when they become distracted by these or other problems. Why is that so?

According to one human psychologist, this happens because the student’s immediate demands dictate what they do right away. Though AI can lead the way for industries (help with dissertation, 2021), the education system still needs to take care of other needs. They only pay attention to that diversion when anxious about these things. These concerns will take precedence over learning and success, and they end up paying someone to take online class on their behalf. How can we best engage our kids and encourage them to place a high priority on their education? Maybe through Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS: WHAT IS IT?

Every person has particular demands, and if those needs are not met, it may cause worry and psychological pressure. Philosophers and thinkers have attempted to categorize human needs since the dawn of time. We will discover today how Maslow organizes them into a hierarchy.

The hierarchy of needs is a concept that Maslow proposes in his book “A Theory of Human Motivation.” According to the hierarchy, people should attend to their essential requirements before their less important ones. Maslow contends that people must satisfy four requirements to be who they are. If the teachers cannot fulfill those requirements, should they pay someone to do online class? Maybe yes. He organized the needs into a hierarchical pyramid, starting at the bottom with the most critical needs and rising to the top with less critical needs.

Physiological needs are the first kind of need. The needs usually taken as the starting point for motivation theory are the so-called physiological drives (Maslow, Lewis, 1987). People want to meet their bodily demands at this layer, including those for shelter, food, and water. People subsequently prioritize safety, love, and belonging after meeting these needs. They then go on to esteem and self-actualization once these requirements have been met. You can spot a trend as you climb the pyramid. Your requirements grow increasingly psychological and social as you ascend.

MASLOW’S THEORY IMPLEMENTED IN EDUCATION

The educational field has dramatically benefited from Maslow’s theory. Maslow’s theory has helped the education sector understand why students behave as they do. It is beneficial for teachers and other educators to consider a student’s behavior as a whole rather than just an individual act.

  • Hunger: You can help them satisfy that demand by giving them lunch at school. However, it is difficult for schools to keep track of students’ additional physical demands. These physical requirements go outside of the school’s purview. It has been found that students who are unable to meet their physical needs will not be able to do well in school.
  • Safety: Moving up to the second tier is safety. Students place a high value on safety, and teachers can work to give students a sense of security. Working with a routine that will enable children to anticipate what will happen will allow them to complete the exercise without raising their anxiety levels safely.
  • Self-Esteem: After completing the safety tier, students move on to the self-esteem layer. For every person, self-esteem is crucial. This requirement is tenfold for students. Students are starved for attention and affection. They have reached a point where having someone take care of them is crucial.
  • Classroom Atmosphere: The mood in the classroom is very different when the instructors are humanists. They recognize the value of a stimulating setting where they can study and develop freely. Additionally, they try to create a welcoming environment so that students feel comfortable discussing their problems and seek advice from the teacher.
  • Teacher-Student RelationshipRelationship between teacher and student: If teachers use a humanistic approach to their students, they can comprehend the student’s mentality and see that the student needs to be motivated to learn a particular subject. Instead of imposing the material on the students, they will seek to inspire them.
  • Positive Thinking: The humanistic perspective is a strong proponent of positivity. To the best of their abilities, teachers who use a humanistic approach recognize and respect students’ feelings. They support the development of kids’ good emotions. They will ensure that students may give in to their emotions and face problems rather than brush them under the rug.
  • Physical Requirements: You must ensure that your kids have access to all the essential comforts in the classroom to meet their physiological needs.
  1. Students should stay hydrated, and maintaining appropriate levels of hydration can help them perform effectively.
  2. You work better after eating. Your kids won’t be able to concentrate in class if they are hungry.
  3. Many students don’t get enough sleep, which can seriously harm their academic performance.
  • Safety NeedsSafety is a top priority for instructors and students alike. Specifically, kids need secure surroundings to develop into healthy people. Teachers can take the following actions to protect the students:
  1. Be empathetic. Many things are happening in the background, which causes students to act out occasionally.
  2. Foster an atmosphere of trust so that kids feel secure in your company. Make as much noise as you can.
  3. Interact with and offer advice to your students. This makes it easier for students to locate a safe space to discuss their problems.
  • Vanity Needs: When you give your students affirmations, you may feed their self-esteem, which needs to be done. Also possible are the following actions:
  1. Congratulate your students for their accomplishments.
  2. Encourage the practice of compliments in your classroom.
  3. Avoid drawing attention to their flaws and assist them in understanding why they failed so they can improve rather than feel horrible about it.

You will eventually see your students at the level of Self Actualization as you assist them in moving up the ladder. They can fully grasp who they are at this point and work to play to their strengths. This is how they start to fulfill their potential and shine.
